FAQs

What is your consultation process for working with clients?

First, I provide a free consultation meeting with potential clients to determine whether there’s a good match in terms of our needs and interests. After this, I develop a contract and scope of work with the client. We establish a communication protocol and timeline that helps us do the work effectively, efficiently, and with quality. It is important that we develop a trusting and transparent professional relationship. While I have processes and frameworks that I use for strategic planning, program development, and organizational wellbeing, I do provide customized support for clients, usually co-designing activities to meet thier goals. I also respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs) that organizations release.

What is your pricing structure?

I offer a fair and competitive rate for my services and expertise. I typically offer a fixed project fee, but depending on the type, complexity, and length of the project, I can offer an hourly rate. I provide a discounted rate for grassroots nonprofit organizations who are just getting started, or have a low annual budget.

Do you work with international organizations?

Yes. While my work is primarily in the U.S., I am open to providing my services online, or traveling to other countries where my clients reside. My international experience includes implementing educator professional development for school systems, conducting workshops for NGOs, and facilitating conference sessions.

What types of projects do you work on?

Examples of recent projects include:

  • Designing and facilitating a series of workshops on change management and evidence based change for researcher practitioner partnerships working with state education agencies

  • Guiding strategic planning, visioning, and the creation of a 5-year strategic plan for a nonprofit organization

  • Writing grant proposals to private foundations and state education agencies for nonprofit organizations

  • Developing a youth mentoring and civic leadership program for an accredited university

  • Conducting a workshop on breath work and writing practice for social change advocates

  • Providing input and feedback on the mission, vision, and theory of change for a grassroots racial justice nonprofit

What is your background and expertise?

Strategic planning: For 25+ years, I’ve held leadership positions in large and small nonprofit organizations. My responsibilities have included contributing to and/or leading short and long-term strategic planning activities. I have also served as a coach for state and local education leaders as they engaged in strategic planning and systems change.

Proposal and resource development: I have extensive experience writing grant proposals, and have been awarded numerous grants from private foundations, corporate foundations, state education agencies, and the federal department of education. I respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and have been invited by funders to submit proposals. I also served as an advisor for philanthropic foundations. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a range of resources, including frameworks, toolkits, case studies, concept papers, and other materials. Some of these resources are used internally within organizations, and others were published for the broader education and nonprofit community.

Program design and implementation: I have facilitated the design and implementation of multidisciplinary programs geared for leaders, educators, and youth in K12 districts, postsecondary institutions, and nonprofit organizations. The types of programs include leadership development, teacher trainings, technical assistance, and curriculum development. Program content areas include organizational change management, student-centered pedagogy, inclusive social studies and civics education, law and social justice, and diversity and equity.

Organizational wellbeing: I have experience facilitating diversity discussions and data analysis with an equity lens, helping partners deepen their understanding of root causes of inequities, in order to inform programming and organizational development. My background in cultural anthropology gives me a solid foundation for conducting organizational wellbeing audits. I develop surveys, conduct observations, implement focus groups and interviews, and analyze results to provide recommendations. I also bring my experiences in teaching meditation and breath work, combined with my expertise in adult learning theory, to design and facilitate workshops for nonprofits.
